Good food, relaxed vibes and picture perfect scenery makes the Old Point House the perfect spot for a brother sister catch up.
Not all good sibling relationships come naturally… sometimes it takes effort to get to know the people our our brothers and sisters have become and to maintain the sibling bonds we will share for the rest of our lives.
This has become more of a priority and I now place great importance on making time to bond with my one and only brother. So on those rare occasions he’s home I seek out some of Pembrokeshire best kept secret spots for our catch-ups and The Old Point House in Angle did not disappoint.
Set on the water of East Angle Bay, overlooking the refinery, we visited in the dead of January and were met with picturesque crisp winter vibes, still glassey water gently lapping at the shore and locals huddled at the open fireplace.
An early dinner reservation meant we were rewarded with the cozy window seat and had the restaurant to ourselves for a good old catch up before the restaurant filled up around 7pm. The staff were laid back and welcoming and somehow made us feel perfectly at ease in the otherwise empty restaurant.
The signature Mor Burger with 100% Welsh beef and laverbread was on the menu for both of us and despite the burger being more than enough to fill a hungry belly we couldn’t resist a side of rustic fries to share with the all important Mor Ketchup to dip.
Morishly good the food is classic pub grub with a hint of the sea. The deluxe hot chocolate sounded like the perfect winter evening treat to round out a cozy family catch up and it warmed the cockles before we ventured back out into the cold.
Not one for the sweet treats instead my brother enjoyed the mixed berry apple cider from the close by pembrokeshire cider company… who also make a cracking cold pressed apple juice.
So if you find yourself in “The Shire” with a hankering for unpretentious but delicious elevated pub grub and a cozy coastal laid back vibe, I highly recommend checking out Angles very own hidden gem. It’s well worth the walk from Angle village out to The Old Point House (if you don’t need to drive) to enjoy the majestic waterside walk. Enjoy the open fire and cozy cwtches in the colder months and the outdoor events on offer through the summer and show some love for one of Pembs gems.
